Baltimore Orioles star Frank Robinson’s 1971 500th career home run assured him immortality in baseball’s Hall of Fame; now his iconic bat, used to hit the historic Home Run, is being offered for public sale.

The bat will be displayed by J T Sports of Margate, N.J. at booth 545 at the 33rd Annual National Sports Collectors Convention August 1-5, 2012 at Baltimore Convention Center. For additional information contact John Taube, owner of J. T. Sports, at 609-487-8003.

Robinson hit the historic home run in Baltimore’s Memorial Stadium in the 9th inning of Game Two of a Baltimore Orioles/Detroit Tigers doubleheader on September 13, 1971. Robinson’s is the only 500th home run bat, of the original 11 members of the 500 home run club, that is held privately and has been offered for public sale.

With an estimated value of over $100,000, the bat is fully documented and is accompanied by a signed statement of authenticity from Frank Robinson. Additional documentation includes a letter from Tom Donahue, a photographer who was presented the bat by Robinson after the game. The bat has been authenticated by J T Sports – authenticators of professional model game used bats for PSA/DNA a division of Collectors Universe, the nation’s leader in third party authentication and grading services for high-value collectibles.

Robinson, Hall of Fame outfielder who enjoyed a 21-year major league career, hit 586 lifetime home runs, placing him 9th on the All Time Home Run List. Upon retiring, Robinson went on to become baseball’s first black manager in the major leagues with the 1975 Cleveland Indians.
